Germany Loses Foot and Mouth Disease-Free Status

Germany has officially lost its Foot and Mouth Disease free status following the detection of Foot and Mouth Disease in a herd of farmed water buffalo, confirmed by the German Chief Veterinary Officer on 10th January 2025. 


The consignments affected are :

• Consignments direct from Germany

• Consignments from other countries that have sourced meat from Germany also under restrictions


The affected commodities:

• Ruminant and porcine germplasm (frozen sperm, ova, and embryos)

• Untreated meat from ruminants and porcine animals

• Meat products from ruminants and porcine animals that have not been • Subjected to a specific treatment (treatment A not acceptable)

• Untreated dairy and dairy products

• Untreated animal by-products from ruminants and porcine

• Hay and straw


Be advised that DEFRA has provided instructions to NOT allow any products into GB that can be affected by this disease until further notice.
