An outbreak of sheep pox and goat pox was confirmed in the Republic of North Macedonia on 27 January 2026.
As a result, the import of fresh or chilled (untreated) hides and skins of sheep and goats from the Republic of North Macedonia has been suspended.
In addition, imports of untreated wool and hair of sheep and goats are now only permitted if they are:
dry and securely enclosed in packaging; sent directly to a plant producing derived products for uses outside the feed chain or a plant carrying out intermediate operations under conditions which prevent the spread of pathogenic agents.
Please see Imports, exports and EU trade of animals and animal products: topical issues for more information on these restrictions.
